ADDICTS
No-one chooses to be an addict. Yet in our society, addiction is ubiquitous.
This series explores individuals accounts in the complex and often hidden world of addiction. Not the stories most commonly associated with hardcore junkies but, instead, those of forgotten memories that lie in the shadows of everyday lives.
The photographs portrait poignant personal possessions from a group of people who are unrelated but share the lived experience of addiction, be it substance abuse, over-eating, unhealthy relationships, workaholism or hoarding.
Each belonging embodies defining early childhood experiences that have, in part, engendered self-destructive addictive behaviours into adulthood.
'The question isn’t why the addition but why the pain'.
- Dr Gabor Mate, In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts
